ARS Member Schools Mascots

Dear Member Schools,

Please see below for a brief explanation regarding the Mascots created for member schools by the ARS

The ARS Mascots that have been in use for the past one (1) year are the intellectual property of the ARS exclusively. They are used in the development of material for each member school and their purpose to is to promote the Rugby Team of Members Schools.

ARS will base much of the material it produces around the mascots. For example the up and coming reward cards and the portal for accessing rewards points shall be built around the mascot. The jerseys are designed around the mascot of each member school. ARS magazine is designed around the mascot of the member schools.

See link for jerseys: https://www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/kit

See link for reward card images: https://www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/elite-development-program#/ars-reward

In the event a member school decides to no longer be a part of the ARS the ARS is at liberty to disassociate the mascot from the member school and allot the mascot usage to another member school.

Please do not hesitate to contact Seyi Opanubi on 0803 301 9519 or info@allrugbyschools-edp .org for any questions.

Three trophies up for grabs

Remember there are three cups up for grabs: the 1st XV, 1st X Girls only and 1st X Mixed Tag.

Each school is expected to put forward three teams. The three Masters have painstakingly at the ARS cost prepared three teams at each school. Master Emmanuel has prepared the 1st XV, Master Segun the 1st X Mixed Tag and Master Seun the 1st X Girls only.

Numbers in each Team

Each team is expected to have the following numbers which the Masters have been training.

1st X Girls only – 10 players

Football boots

Players should use football boots to avoid sliding around.

Gumshields

1st XV must use gum shields

80 minutes each half for 1st XV

1st XV mach consists of two halves of 40 minutes each.

Season 4 ARS Second (2nd) Primary School league match

Good morning Members

We had a successful day out this Saturday with the primary school members. Venue was at the Cavaliers (Sec). We wish to thanks the head of the Cavaliers Secondary School for her support.

Late arrival

Good turnout though some teams were late notably like the Black Jedis and the Green Knights.

Parents

Parents turnout has been poor of recent but I must congratulate parents of the Black Jedis. Mrs Akande of the Cavaliers was alone but her presence was well appreciated. Parents do not seem to appreciate how important their presence is in encouraging and supporting players.

Spartans

The Spartans came with the clear intent of putting their past behind them. They were most impressive. Congrats as your renewed energy and creativity was clear to see. All opposing teams were taken by surprise. Keep it up.

2nd Team

Black Jedis and the Cavaliers turned up with their 2nd team. They held their own well against some very good opposition. Well done!!!!

Astro turf boots

Players wearing astro turf boots as advised benefited significantly from the grip the boots provide. I encourage players to have two boots available. Standard football boots for soil and astro turf boots for astro turf.

St Saviours

The visitors, St Saviours had a good day out and we look forward to having them in the future.

Team play vs individual skill

Teams still need to work on their cohesiveness, communication, use of the field and ball retention. There was more of individual skill on display as oppose to team play. Masters have a lot of work to do in this area. The successful teams like the Black Jedis used their cohesiveness as an advantage in matches.

6th April Secondary School League Match

The Secondary school league match is this Saturday at the Barbarians. All teams must turn up with their:

1.       Contact team 20 1st XV

2.       Girls Only 10 1st X

3.       Mixed Tag 10 1st X

The ARS has spent so much resources, time and expense in training the players. Let’s not discourage their effort and instead encourage them by turning up in numbers.

Please note that for the year 9 boys, if parents give their consent, they may play in the league match.

Please note that year 7-12 boys are trained by the Master to play contact rugby, however only year 10-12 boys may play league matches, whilst year 9 boys can play if their parents provide written consent.

School bus vs Parents

Going forward member schools shall please arrange for school buses to bring players to school instead of parents. This is to ensure matches start on-time and players are thus able to depart on-time.

Match Points

Secondary School League match points for mixed tag and girls only are being altered to reward teams that win their matches. Points are thus awarded for wins in addition to points being awarded for tries. Below is the new match scoring system.

Win: 3 points

Draw: 1 point to each team

Lose: 0 point to losing team

Draw at end of league season: Use try scored in total to determine winner wherein try by male player is 1 point and try by female player in mixed tag ONLY is 3 points.

Secondary School league match points for senior contact team are as follows:

Try: 5 points

Try Conversion: 2 points

Penalty Point: 3 points

Pre-1st ARS Secondary School league match

Good morning ARS members,

The primary school league match of the 2nd of March was amazing. Well done to all schools. We observe the ascendency of the Cavaliers and especially the White Jedis.

Cavaliers award of Order of the Emperor Badge

The Cavaliers are to be congratulated for embracing the spirit of the ARS. All players will be badged with Order of the Emperor for leadership. They displayed self sacrifice, selflessness, care and appreciation. These are all hallmarks of leadership. We saw Cavalier players apologize to opposing players and help them get up when they fell. We saw Cavalier players dedicate their match to an injured player who stood by the side and encouraged her team mates. I was very impressed. Well-done.

Kishi of the Green Knights

The 2nd of March league match revealed some star players. With great pride we wish to honour Tunji Kuku Kishi with the Order of Power Steel for Endurance. In the match he put himself on the line for his team mates. He pushed himself. During the match he placed his body in line of fire, though he was tired having played back to back matches.

Mouth Guards for Contact Team at Secondary School League Match.

Players in the Contact Teams must please use mouth guards. Please get in-touch with Master Emmanuel for support.

Football boots with studs for Secondary School League MAtch

Secondary School league match is being played on grass. All players in Girls only, Mixed Tag and Contact Teams must please wear football or rugby boots with studs as the soil might get very soft.

Hockey boots for Astro Turf for Primary School League Match

Primary School league match is being played on astro turf in some schools. Could players in need of astro turf hockey boots get in-touch with Master Emmanuel and provide shoe size.

Play in the Rain

Please note that this is Rugby and thus when it rains we play in the rain and yes we get muddy. Only Exceptions are thunderstorms and hurricanes.

1st ARS Secondary School league match

Good morning ARS members,

The lesson from this first secondary school league match of the season is less is more and preparation is key. We had only two schools show-up for the match but it made it easier to manage than having four schools.

For the Cavaliers and Red Jedis we hope they will make out time for a make-up match.

Pictures are available here: https://www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/gallery#/secondary-school-season-18/19

Barbarians pitch

We wish to thank the Barbarians for hosting the ARS league match. They did a wonderful job. It was nice to have the acting head of school of the Barbarians in attendance.

Contact Match

Match of 80 minutes ended after 60 minutes. Spartans had to leave because of a basketball final match. It is the first league match. It was an absolute success. Players from the Spartans and the Barbarians were amazing. They showed each other respect and epitomized the true spirit of rugby. Results of the match can be found here: https://www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/secretariat#/201819-match-results-and-fixtures

Tackles were fast and furious. Runs were focused and direct.

Both teams need to work on their rucks and mauls. Barbarians had the edge over Spartans in the scrum. In broken play Barbarians backs made better use of the space when the ball went to their backs. Both teams need to work on protecting the ball. Support play with the Barbarians was better than the Spartans. Spartans were at a weight disadvantage but held their own well.

Girls ONLY match

This was keenly fought as is clear from the score line. However there was more individualistic play than there was team play. The breadth of the field was not used. Realignment was slow and so was support play. There was more focus on individual pace as oppose to smart play using hands and letting the ball do the work. This was a medium scoring match with five points in total scored. See: https://www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/secretariat#/201819-match-results-and-fixtures

Mixed Tag match

Spartans did not feature their year 9s which put them at a disadvantage. Once again there was more individualistic play than there was team play. The breadth of the field was not used. Realignment was slow and so was support play. There was more focus on individual pace as oppose to smart play using hands and letting the ball do the work. This was a low scoring match. See: https://www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/secretariat#/201819-match-results-and-fixtures

2nd X mixed tag league match

Spartans and Barbarians presented their 2nd X mixed tag team.

30th March Primary School League Match venue

Spartans have declared their venue unavailable on the 30th of March. An alternative venue is being sourced. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Year 9s playing Contact at League Matches

Year 9s like year 7 and 8 train in contact rugby but don’t play at league matches with year 10s, 11s and 12s.
